In 1831, Faraday used the device shown in Figure 1 and found that at the moment the left switch was turned on, the ammeter on the right would deflect immediately and quickly recover. It is proved that electromagnetism can be generated by each other, and the law of electromagnetic induction is established. Not only laid the theoretical foundation for the birth of the transformer, this model is the earliest model of the transformer.

In 1882, the Frenchman Gaunard and the Englishman Gibbons used a device called a "secondary generator" to change the voltage.

In 1885, the Hungarian Electric Power Engineering's Deli, Burrasser, and Zippalausky were modified on the basis of the device structure of Gönard-Gebos, and the term "transformer" was applied to this field for the first time.

In the same year, the Genz factory in Hungary produced a single-phase closed-loop magnetic circuit (hereinafter referred to as a "transformer"), the main components of which were initially formed.

Around 1890, the invention and development of three-phase AC transmission and distribution system made the importance of transformers in the power grid more obvious, and three-phase core transformers came into being.

Around 1930, after the initial establishment of the basic theory of the transformer, the transformer was modified and improved. That is, the use of new materials, new optimization methods and new production processes to continuously expand the field of transformer applications.

In 1934, the American Gauss conquered the preparation technology of one-way silicon steel sheet, which greatly improved the weight, no-load loss, rated capacity and other performance indicators of the transformer.

With the continuous development of science and technology, induction furnace transformers, high-voltage test transformers, electronic transformers, high-temperature superconducting transformers and other transformers continue to emerge, in the power network, circuit communications, national defense, metal smelting and other fields have been widely used.
